Assosa Environmental Protection Association (AEPA)

Green Love Appreciative Development (GLAD) is a Civil Society Organization (CSO) established in 2005 in the Benishangul-Gumuz Regional State (BGRS). In addition to its work in BGRS, the organization is currently working ag- gressively to increase its access and impact in the Oromia and Gambella Regional States. Since its establishment, GLAD has benefited more than 1.5 million people across these three regions focusing on land rehabilitation because land is the basic resource as input for all development sectors. Due to several reasons, land is a dynamic
resource. Therefore, seeking information on the dynamics of land and its resources is essential to understand the opportunities and limitations attached to it, and vital to develop sound management plans. Since human beings started agriculture and the subsequent industrial revolutions, people have been overusing the land, which is an alarming issue. To consider the rights of future generations to use land resources, to-day we should plan the use of land. Therefore, land use planning is one of the priority agendas that all development practitioners must take into consideration Currently, GLAD has been working in collaboration with the GIZ, PILUP project and the Benishangul-Gumuz Regional State (BGRS) government,
particularly the Bureau of Land and Cooperative Bureau, to serve the communities at large. Since 2020, they have been implementing a Spatial
Land Use Plan in Aburamo Woreda of the Benishangul-Gumuz Regional State. GLAD has contributed significantly to creating awareness among the communities on how to use land effectively and efficiently in a planned way. The organization has also collected information from the communities to develop a spatial map of the Aburamo Woreda. This is the third newsletter published by GLAD to incorporate the community’svoice, scientific facts, project results, and GLAD’s achievements, including notifications. I am pleased to invite you all to go through all the pages of the newspaper to gather information about its various sections and components.
